IF I have IE active, there is always at least two iexplorer. Sometimes these are iexplorer. I just want to understand this so it does not 'bother' me anymore This thread is locked. You will see two or more open as like you stated the first one is the parent and responsable for everything, the others are for tabs to different sites if you have more than one tab open, if not the one tab is the child of the parent and has the site open. I have seen it help like it is suppose to but then sometimes I have seen it lock everything so it is like anything else on the computer tempermental.

After opening several tabs or starting separate IE windows, close a few. I found that the extra processes do not go away. My second iexplore. I have tried uninstalling and removing it using hijack this and it keep coming back. It does seem to randomly open up other websites especially when I am looking for something on a google search. Maybe randomly is the wrong word, it might be very selective. Two other web pages opened while I was typing this. Comments violating those rules will be removed.

I am running this page in one tab right now and there are 3 iexplore processes running! I was wondering if anybody knows why this is AFAIK multi-threaded processes are grouped with the same process listing so it's probably not due to multi-threading , and if it is multi-threading, how to turn it off if possible?

It uses a separate thread for each plugin and addon. One of those will be the main browser, and one is the main tab there will always be at least one open, otherwise the whole browser is closed , and the last one is probably Flash or Java.
